Section 6.0 — Trading Floor Cleaning Process

The trading floor is to be swept according to the specification for the site using a dust control mop.
Stickers should be removed using a scraper during the sweeping process.

Stock is to be separated from rubbish and placed on a flatbed trolley and placed in the agreed location.
Rubbish is to be placed in a clear plastic waste bag (provided by store).

The floor is to be scrubbed daily using the Auto Scrubber Machine

(Refer to Equipment Usage/Maintenance section for correct operating procedure).

Please refer to the Cleaning Matrix for which sections are to be cleaned in relation to full and partial cleans.

A scraper should be used to remove any missed stickers from the floor during this process.
Steel wool should only be used very lightly to remove marks — as this process will remove the polish from the floor.
The centre of a buffing or scrubbing pad can be used to remove stubborn marks in aisles.

Mopping around fixtures:

  • Place 40ml of Neutral Cleaner in a bucket and fill with warm water.

  • Mop around all:

    • Checkouts

    • Service desks

    • Moveable objects such as guide dogs signage, security scanner advertising covers, gondola feet, and all corners and edges of the store.

  • Change water frequently.

Buffing the floor:

Once the floor is completely dry, buff the floor using the Gas Burnisher supplied.

  • Ensure all areas are buffed including:

    • Entry

    • Registers

    • Trolley bay

    • Aisles according to the specification for the store.

(Refer to Equipment Usage/Maintenance section for correct operating procedure).

Buffing should be performed at a slow walking pace and PPE must be used at all times.

NOTE: Never buff a wet floor.

Final sweep:

A final sweep of the floor must be performed to remove any buffer dust.

If this process is not completed, dust will very quickly build up under and around gondola feet, corners, and edges in the store, and will make cleaning much more difficult.

Detail mopping of aisles:

  • Place 40ml of Neutral Cleaner in a bucket and fill with warm water.

  • Follow your Cleaning Matrix and mop under the relevant aisles required for that day, based on the cleaning specification for the store.

  • Ensure that all centre posts and gondola feet are detail mopped.

  • Change water frequently to avoid staining of the floor.

Chrome and poles:

  • Chrome Bollards and Pole Chrome, including Register Legs, are to be cleaned.

  • This can be completed using Glass Cleaner and Paper Towel or a Glass Cleaning Cloth.

Section 6.0 — Assessment
